Grandma White's bread pudding recipe (with comments from M)
12 oz Currants
4 oz sultanas (or 16 oz mixed fruit instead)
Max 3 oz brown sugar (err on less as you don't want it too sweet)
4 oz marg (Grandma said suet but I found it too fatty, you could try a mixture)
1lb bread (stale or fresh makes no odds)
2 heaped teaspoons mixed spice (more if you like, it is better)
Break bread and soak in cold water until soft (do not use too much)
Squeeze out surplus water
Place in large mixing bowl with other ingredients.
Knead well together.
Place in greased tin. Fork the top.
Bake at low temp 140 -150 C for 1 1/2 to 2 hours.
Of course Daddy would just throw whatever he thought in a bowl and it magically turns out delicious but this will give you a start.
The mixture should not be too wet.
Good luck 💖
